Richmond Lam

Richmond Lam is one of the most promising talents in photo currently working in Montreal and frequently draws comparisons in creative circles to legendary portrait artists like Helmut Newton, Hedi Slimane and Irving Penn.

Fittingly, Richmond made his third submission to SNAP! for the Paper issue with a portrait tribute to Newton. His two images, part of a larger series, are definitely one of the highlights of that issue and show off Richmond's classic yet contemporary aesthetic. Richmond's photos were shown in a solo show at Ctrl Lab in January 2010 and his black and white shots of local personalities shown in that exhibit garnered him much attention in the media. Richmond has been widely published, among the titles are magazines like Dazed and Confused, VICE and Naked Eye. Some of the musicians he has shot include The Stills, Magnetic Fields, Crystal Castles and DJ Champion, and some of his notable subjects include Xavier Dolan, Denis Gagnon and a recent series on Les Grandes Ballets Canadiens de Montreal. You can see a selection of his work on his website.
