Mathieu Fortin

Montreal based photographer Mathieu Fortin is a quiet force on the scene. His dark and graphic images have charmed the alternative crowds, and his body of work ranges from fashion to music, with a number of Triptyqu3 editorials under his belt, an ongoing collaboration with designer Christian L'enfant Roi and artists like Le Matos, Radio Radio and Coeur de Pirate, to name a few.

After his 'My first Coif' submission in the 12th issue of SNAP!, Mathieu whipped out 'My first Fight' from his archive when we called requesting a bloody mess. We thought of him right away for our following issue when our then art director Vanda Daftari wanted a modern tribute to the gangs of West Side Story. They teamed up with stylist Jay Forest to recreate the infamous Jets vs Sharks street fight scenes, and a team of dancers and models were cast. An ambitious project...the choreographed scenes turned out to be one of the highlights of that issue. More recently Mathieu shot three stories for our Double D's issue and in issue 15 paired up with Thanh and Dang Trinh in a stunning studio editorial.
