Jennifer Rapp

She designs, makes, patterns, draws, sews, shoots, models, dances, bombs, travels, speaks four languages including German, Indonesian, French and English, entertains, paints murals... in fact, I'm not sure why I didn't start with what she doesn't do. Maybe sit on the couch eating crisps? Actually, I think she probably does that too. Damn, woman!
SNAP! first noticed Miss Rapp (pictured above) creating live art at a show [Bass Drive] back in 2009. In her sky high heels, sassy high-waisted skinnys and a half-face gasmask, SNAP! had a girl crush. With the backdrop of a burgeoning street-influenced canvas, it was all we could do not to swoon.
Since then, Rapp has continued to impress, as with further meetings and subsequent partying it became apparent that the young designer is an intelligent, interesting and motivated entrepreneur with a head for business and a heart for fashion. Oh, she also invented fun. "How could that be?" I hear you mock. "Fun was invented a long time ago." And while that's mostly true, Miss Rapp here made a dress for it and made fun funner.
We could wax lyrical all day about how great she is, but instead we asked her a few questions to find out a little from behind the dope threads, and see what we might be looking forward to from the lady in the near future.
SNAP!: Where did you grow up?
Jennifer: I grew up in Germany, Holland, Indonesia and Vietnam, but I am home everywhere.
S: Why Montreal?
J: I fell in love in Saigon, he asked me to come, I said Ok! and here I am.
S: Who or what has been your most inspirational muse?
J: Any type of music and art that exists outside the scope of mainstream mass media and popular culture.
S: Next conquest?
J: I was working on a collection with a friend of mine after my graduation [A diploma in Fashion Design from LaSalle College], yet since I am not from here I had to put it on hold. A work permit requires an income, which as an entrepreneur you don't have. I am currently searching for a job as an assistant designer.
S: Top five songs to sew to;
J: This is a tough one since I have an eclectic music taste...
1. 16bit- Shallow
2. Slick Rick- Sittin' in my car
3. Yak Ballz- Glory Days Gone
4. Zeno- No.9
5. CocoRosie- Werewolf
S: What's your favourite place in the world?
J: Anywhere with a beautiful beach
S: What's the best thing about living in Montreal?
J: Summer.
S: What would you rather, See or hear?
J: See.
S: Thank you Miss Jennifer, it's been a pleasure.
Rapp is also currently working on a shoot especially for SNAP! it'll be around soon so be sure to stop back and check it.
