1195 St Laurent
Montreal, Quebec
This is personally my most anticipated show since the time I drove six hours to see Tool play when I was 14. Ten years later, and a decade of music education, I now feel the pull of the electronic scene over a metal show. Indeed, Montreal's electronic scene is clearly thriving. There are so many local producers unafraid of experimenting and an abundance of open minded audiences to play out to. Komodo shows have built a dedicated following, with their experimental multi-media performances including international head-liners and local talent, showcasing some of the best Montreal will offer.
Tomorrow night's show is no exception. Suhk Knight is one of the most influential upcoming dubstep producers in the UK scene. The 19 year old is somewhat of an enigma, but his tracks speak for themselves. And as much as I delayed my international departure until the end of November so as to not miss this show, my excitement tripled when I discovered Montreal's Sharivari was also on the line up. I have only seen this guy play once before, enough to get me hooked. As E.S.L resident and UK Funky/Tropical producer and DJ, Sharivari is spinning the most inspiring beats I have heard in a while. UK funky has been slow to infiltrate Montreal, DJ Bus of the infamous MTL funky parties and E.S.L crew being one of the few I am aware of (happy to be proven wrong- I would love to be seeing more of it!) so this was one of the first shows I've attended promoting the funky scene. Oh how I danced.
As always, the beautiful world and bass music from Komodo and Hosta's phenomenal beats will be featuring, as will DJ InYourFace along with live vocals. Ottawa's Karl Haze will complete the outstanding line-up, who I have been hearing good things about- also currently enjoying the set posted on the Komodo show page by DJ Hosta (thanks Nick!).
Please check this out if you have a chance. A party not to be missed.
