Bizarre also means bizarre in French.

With a year of drunken hair attacks under my belt, little was left. Some grown out attempts at a faux mohawk in amongst uneven endevours at an asymetrical cut [How could I get THAT wrong? I believe tequila was involved. Distressing how even it came out]. Layers of chop and dead, dyed, dried locks. A hairdressers' nightmare... an artist's challenge.
At the insistence of The Best Friend a Girl Could Have, I booked an appointment with SNAP! favourite- hairstylist Yannick Ross of Coupe Bizarre on St Laurent.
Yannick is one of those wonderful enigma's of cool. The unintentional trendsetter: nominated through incredible talent and creative genius. With tattoos adorning both legs and his chest, facial piercings and killer clothing style, he is clearly someone who just Knows.
His work is phenomenal; he listens, and he will do. You should be aware the consequences of the disclaimer and use the words "Do what you like" carefully. However, I fully recommend letting him do his thang. Giving Yannick full creative control in my case resulted in an asymetric bob. Sliced down to a centimeter on the right side, with the left side cut on an angle to my chin.
Usually one to cower from the current style and trends before they become mainstream; spending my life as a fashion victim; wouldn't know 'style' if an instructional guide was tattooed on my right forearm/ embedded in my cheek bone from brass knuckle engravings in a punch to the face etc, etc... But after the shock, wearing Yannick's styling made me feel kinda cool, acceptably fashionable. Not in a "now-my-hair-is-'zaney' I must be the height of cool", but more in a "yea, I'm not a model, but I can wear a sweet hair cut" kind of a way. As Yannick said "Why not have fun hair?"
It's all about confidence really inn'it?
Above all, I feel pretty blessed to be walking around with some artwork from one of the most talented hairstylists in Montreal on my head.
All that? Just from a haircut? You'd be surprised. Give Coupe Bizarre a call and see for yourself.
Look out for SNAP! issue 7, where some of Yanick's work features on the cover and leading story models Zoe and Dan.
GAH! I didn't want to do this but with no other available head shots of Yannick's work, here's mine.
Words by Shit!-there's-my-face! Reddington
